St. Martins & The Bay Of Fundy

Less than an hour away from Saint John is the picturesque fishing village of St. Martins, a beautiful window through which to take a peek at life in New Brunswick. During the scenic drive to St. Martins, your local guide will entertain you with fascinating folklore about the village, including the thriving shipbuilding era of bygone days. Upon arrival, stop at the harbor and witness the effects of the extreme high and low tides of the Bay of Fundy. This area is a favorite with artists, with its lighthouse, lobster traps and fishing boats creating a charming scene. Stroll over the covered bridge and explore this working harbor. Visit the beach, where time and tides have carved echoing caves in the sandstone cliffs. Enjoy a walk along the beach and a light lunch of delicious seafood chowder at the beach restaurant. As you return to the pier, enjoy the scenery and reflect on your wonderful day in St. Martins. Note: This tour is also available with a French-speaking guide. French-speaking guests should book SJB_40. There will be alternate soup for those who don't eat seafood. Participants must be able to walk approximately 300 yards over even surfaces with 5 to 10 steps. Walking on the beach and at the Sea Caves is over very rocky terrain and is at your discretion. The Sea Caves are only accessible at low tide, but they can be viewed from the beach during high tide. The tide may be high or low depending on the time of visit.

This area has been visited by many, beginning with the Maritime Archaic Indians 3,500 years ago, Eskimos, Beothuck Indians and the first recorded European visitor Jacques Cartier in 1534 on his first voyage to the new world. Since that time Portuguese, Basques and Captain James Cook have frequented this area. Today Corner Brook is a modern, progressive city with a population of approximately 22,000 and is nestled among scenic hills around 30 miles (approximately 48.3 km) from the Gulf of St. Lawrence. Your tour will take you out to the eastern edge of the city, to Marble Mountain and the Heritage Tree, The Old Man in the Mountain and around Corner Brook to Captain Cook's Monument.


Note: We recommend that you wear a light sweater/jacket. This tour is not suitable for guests in wheelchairs.

Catch a glimpse of the rich Scottish Heritage of Cape Breton Island with a visit to the Nova Scotia Highland Village and the Village of Baddeck. Travel to Iona and immerse yourself in the Scottish Pioneer culture at this living history museum located on a hillside overlooking the Bras d'Or Lake. Featuring a chronological journey through 180 years of Cape Breton architecture, step back in time as your costumed guides provide meaningful commentary. Each structure, from the simple Scottish Block House to the more advanced, multi-storied colonial homes, are filled with furniture and interesting artifacts. You'll travel by cable ferry to the seaside community of Baddeck, home to Alexander Graham Bell. Nestled along the shoreline of the Bras d'Or Lake, this picturesque village features plenty of interesting gift shops and cozy cafes. You'll be served a buffet lunch at a resort hotel and then enjoy leisure time strolling the main street while window shopping or perhaps relaxing for a bit while watching the pleasure boats ply the calm waters of the lake. You'll tour the Alexander Graham Bell Museum prior to our scenic drive back to Sydney. Note: There is a fair amount of walking at the Highland Village. Tour may operate in reverse order.

Bush. Located just 45 minutes from Portland, you'll enjoy a scenic drive through Kennebunkport passing the stunning Federal and Victorian style mansions that were built by wealthy sea captains and merchants in the 1700s and 1800s. A stop will be made in the center of town at Dock Square to enjoy some free time to stroll the picturesque streets lined with shops, galleries, unique boutiques, antique stores, restaurants, and pubs. Your return route will take you past Walker's Point, the Bush Estate and former Summer White House where world leaders often gathered. Note: Participants will have approximately one hour of free time at Dock Square in Kennebunkport. Walking is on sidewalk and gravel at guest's discretion.

Acadia National Park & The Looking Glass

Explore Acadia National Park offering sweeping vistas of majestic cliffs, rocky coves, glacier carved lakes and forests followed by a stop at the Looking Glass Restaurant for a seasonal treat. Travel the 27 mile Park Loop Road to Hull's Cove and Cadillac Mountain, passing famous sights including Jordan Pond House, Otter Cliffs and Thunder Hole, where ocean swells converge against granite cliffs to create a thunderous roar. Most of the park was donated by the Rockefeller family, as you wind through it, you'll see hand-cut stone bridges and other evidence of their elaborate carriage trails. Depending upon weather conditions, stop for a souvenir photo atop Cadillac Mountain, the highest peak on the Atlantic coast, north of Rio de Janeiro.


The summit offers spectacular views of Bar Harbor and its surrounding islands. After visiting the park, enjoy a typical Maine seasonal dessert accompanied by tea, coffee or a cool beverage at the Looking Glass Restaurant with commanding views of Frenchman Bay. The restaurant is located on the estate formerly owned by Mary Roberts Rinehart, a mystery writer of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. During the tour you'll also pass by some of Bar Harbor's city sights as well as mansions built by some of the country's most prominent citizens. Today, many have been converted to quaint Bed and Breakfast Inns.


Note: Walking is at your discretion. Most surfaces are paved but there are some uneven, slippery-when-wet areas and some steps. The photo stop at Cadillac Mountain is paved and partially accessible by wheelchair. However, there is very limited time for unloading with a lift at each stop. In adverse or foggy weather conditions, the Cadillac Mountain stop will be substituted with a visit to the Acadia National Park Visitors Center. The order of the stops might be reversed to avoid congestion.

From the moment you leave the pier you'll be fascinated as your guide takes you to two of the most popular sites in Halifax, Peggy's Cove and the Fairview Lawn Cemetery also known as the 'Titanic' Cemetery. See rustic coastal communities dotted all the way to Peggy's Cove. As you arrive at the cove, you'll see for yourself the impressive rock formations and coastal beauty of this rustic working fishing village. Here you can enjoy leisure time on your own, exploring the unique galleries, taking photos, talking to the local fisherman or trying the famous gingerbread. If you wish, join your guide for a live lobster demonstration and you can even hold a live lobster. Next, your guide takes you to the Fairview Lawn Cemetery and recounts the history of the Titanic, the unsinkable ship that perished late in the evening of April 14, 1912. As you arrive at the Fairview Lawn Cemetery, notice the 121 victim tombstones are arranged in the shape of a ships hull on a grassy bluff. See the tombstone of the Unknown Child, the many tombstones that bear only a number, not a name, and the stone of one J. Dawson and learn his true story. On your return to the pier, take in city highlights while listening to your local guide. Note: The Fairview Lawn Cemetery is not accessible to guests confined to a wheelchair.

First stop is Silver Bush and Anne of Green Gables Museum; where you'll enjoy raspberry cordial with Anne and then embark on a horse and carriage ride along the Lake of Shining Waters. Next, it's off to Cavendish to the Prince Edward Island National Park to visit Green Gables House, the old farm site that inspired L. M. Montgomery's first novel, Anne of Green Gables, published in 1908. Highlighting some of the finest attractions on Prince Edward Island's breathtaking North Shore, this is definitely the Ultimate Anne Experience. Note: Access to Green Gables main floor is via wheelchair ramp. The second floor at Green Gables is not wheelchair accessible. Enjoy the rich history and scenery of Newport, from Colonial days through the Gilded Age to the present. With more than 150 points of interest, pass the historic district with fine examples of Colonial, Federal, and Victorian homes, many of which are designated as national historic sites. Other historic landmarks include Trinity Church, Redwood Library and the Gothic Church of Saint Mary's where Jacqueline Bouvier married Senator John F. Kennedy. Continue along the world-famous, 10-mile Ocean Drive to enjoy spectacular views of the rocky coastline. Then it's on to Bellevue Avenue where society's millionaires of the early 20th century built their grand summer 'cottages'. You'll pass the opulent mansions of the Vanderbilts, Astors and Morgans, many of which have been beautifully preserved by the Newport Preservation Society. If time permits, a photo stop will be made at Fort Adams.
